I help adult beginners and hobbyists learn bass and love playing it. Jam with friends, learn songs quickly, and skip the endless exercises. I use a song-first approach, teaching you theory through real music so you can understand the why behind what you're playing.
Get started today with my free Fretboard Mastery Cheat Sheet—it’s like having a jam buddy who simplifies the bass for you.
Hey there, I’m Ted!
I picked up the bass at 13, and I’ve been lucky to turn that passion into a lifelong career. Over the years, I’ve held the bass chair with funk legend Zigaboo Modeliste, toured with pop icon Jody Watley, worked with members of Prince’s Revolution and NPG, served as a musical director on two continents, and spent 11 years as a K12 music educator.
But here’s what really fires me up: helping bass players like you jam with confidence, learn songs faster, and ditch those boring, endless exercises that don’t match the music you actually want to play.
My approach is simple: we start with the music. I teach theory through real songs, so you don’t just play—you understand what you’re playing. It’s the same way I learned, and the same method the best musicians I’ve worked with swear by: listen, adapt, absorb, and repeat.
Learning bass should feel as natural as learning to speak—and just as fun. Ready to start grooving? Let’s do this.

"It's easily my number 1 resource for taking my bass playing to the next level. With love to all lowenders, I feel like this should have been my intro to playing. Gratitude! "
R. Harris
"This reminds me of that dude in the neighborhood (who could play anything) showing newbie me a bass line. If you’re patient, this is better than tab, cause you’re remembering positioning and actual sounds, not recalling numbers."
K. Hebert
"Great Videos, real playing examples…Ted, one of your Great Skills is to Teach different styles."
