About Ted

Ted Gould III is a seasoned bassist and educator with deep roots in the rich musical heritage of New Orleans. With a career spanning over two decades, Ted has performed alongside renowned artists like Zigaboo Modeliste of The Meters and '80s pop icon Jody Watley. His bass playing reflects a deep understanding of groove, feel, and musical storytelling, drawing from the funk, soul, and jazz traditions of his hometown.

In addition to his work as a performer, Ted spent a decade teaching K-12 music, sharing his passion and knowledge with the next generation of musicians. He is also the author of The Blue-Collar Bassist, a practical guide for musicians navigating the professional music world.

Ted’s approach to bass is rooted in musicality and connection, prioritizing groove and feel over technical complexity. Whether on stage, in the classroom, or through his online lessons, Ted remains committed to helping others discover the joy of making music. Now based back in New Orleans, he continues to contribute to the city's vibrant music scene while educating and inspiring bass players worldwide.
